Calaba is known for its local culture, traditions, and community activities. The area features a mix of rural and semi-urban environments, with agriculture playing a significant role in the local economy.
Calaba is a popular area to stay as it is close to the centre of Bangued but also feels “out of town” in its quiet areas.

Central Bangued
Central Bangued is classed as the Zone barangays, made up of Barangay Zones 1 to 7.
Zone 1 is along the Abra-Ilocos Norte road leading to Calaba and the Municipalities of LADALAGA (La Paz, Danglas and Lagayan) over the Abra River. The Jeepney Terminal for La Paz, Lagayan and Danglas is located in the Petron Gas Station. Grand Roberto’s Inn is located here.
Zone 2 is the area around Bangued Central Market.
Zone 3 is the area from Bangued West School to San Lorenzo Church. There are many budget eateries here along Santiago St. due to the proximity of schools.
Zone 4 is sandwiched between Santiago and Taft Streets and is where most of the Fast Food places (Mang Inasal, ChowKing and McDonalds) can be found. Don Virgilio Valera Mansion and the Oval Era Shopping Complex are also located here along Taft Street.
Zone 5 is where the Provincial Building, Municipal Building, Plaza and the Cathedral complex are. The Diocesan Pastoral Center is located behind St.James the Elder Parish Office. Zone 5 is also home to Victoria Park and Casamata Hill, the Dominion and Viron Bus Terminals, Oval Era Hotel and Lucky’s Hotel.
Zone 6 is where the Divine Word College is located
Zone 7 begins on Rizal Street behind the Provincial Building and becomes the Abra-Kalinga road as it leaves town going to Tayum.
In Zone 7 you can find the Partas Bus Terminal, the Jeepney Terminal to Dolores and San Juan, DPWH complex, and opposite Chef Hen Restaurant is a shortcut road avoiding the centre of Bangued going to Calaba.
